Since 1996 the Rema Hort Mann Foundation has awarded the Emerging Artist Grant to promising visual artists in the greater New York City metropolitan area. The goal of the Emerging Artist Grant is to support an artist at a critical time in the development of their practice. For an Emerging Artist Grantee the funds can mean another year in their studio, or a year’s worth of supplies, but most importantly, the grant offers artists the time to create their work unfettered by the monetary restrictions that often hinders their creative production. Past Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grantees have included Mary Reid Kelley, who this past year was awarded a MacArthur ‘Genius’ Fellowship, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Keltie Ferris, Rashaad Newsome, Virginia Overton, Dana Schutz, Sarah Sze, Mickalene Thomas, and Kehinde Wiley, among others.
Roma Hort Mann Foundation offers eight Emerging Artists Grants in New York City and eight Emerging Artist Grants in Los Angeles annually through a nomination process.
